French wines: When tradition meets passion

But many winegrowers have abandoned the traditional ways in recent decades. Their production practices led to the exhaustion of the vines, masses of vineyards have to be cleared in France and throughout Europe. More and more often, winegrowers are now taking new paths; they want to turn winegrowing upside down. The young rebels are opposing the decline of wine culture - with new ideas, but with a sense of tradition and, above all, in harmony with nature.

The Beaujolais wine region, located north of Lyon, is going through a turbulent time. The controversial quality of the "Beaujolais nouveau" has led an entire region into crisis. Here, Julien Merle, a young fifth-generation winemaker, has completely broken with previous cultivation practices. Together with his partner Nathalie Banes, he works in the best farming tradition: organic, on natural soil, without chemicals. The result is young, unspoiled natural wines that are in vogue not only in France, but around the world. Will the young wine specialists prevail on the wine market?
