I have used this glass in this Video: RIEDEL Veritas Champagne
I have tasted the following wines in this Video:
Krug Grande Cuvée 169ème Édition
2008 Krug Vintage
Krug Rosé 25ème Édition
For me personally, Krug has always been one of the most desirable Champagnes and they are difficult to get as they are not cheap. The three wines that I am going to taste today cost a whopping 1,400 US$ combined - but to many wine lovers, they are worth the price.
So what is behind the house of Krug and why are people all around the world in love with those wines? Krug was established in 1843 in Reims the Capital of Champagne – many of the other famous Champagne houses are older than that. Found by Johann-Joseph Krug (Born in 1800): A German immigrant from Mainz who Left Germany in 1824 and learned the trade at Champagne house Jacquesson. He called himself Jean-Joseph after immigrating to France and he and the six generations of Krugs propelled the House to the top.
Krug, like many of the bigger Houses, was bought by LVMH (Moet Hennesey Louis-Vuitton) in 1999 but Olivier Krug is still the Director of the House. As one of few Champagne houses Krugs Cellar Master is a woman Julie Cavil. She took over from long-time cellar master Eric Lebel in 2020. She worked at Krug for 14 years before taking over so she knows about the elaborate winemaking process at the winery.
